@joeaccord23 Just regular brake clean, unfilled at just in this area each auto parts store, I don’t have a preference for a brand.
@chevy01silverado Wow, your hard core.
The best way I found to replace rear brakes easily is take some petrol dump or spray the rear brakes take a match light it, be precise to only burn the brakes off not yourself. then after your done and the fire dept has come to place out the fire go to your local care dealer a buy a new car, this is what i do roughly 20,000 miles.
wut spray r u using to clean it?
@fatboy30179 Don’t mess with the drum inside of the disc, it’s only there for the parking brake and does no braking whatsoever. The only thing I ever do to those (unless they are hurt) is clean them up when I replace the rotors.
@dartme18 I couldn’t agree with you more. I am far from perfect and I don’t expect my viewers to be, that’s why I leave a lot of that stuff in my videos. You are observably very observant, thanks for watching and the comment.
Fantastic video man, never had the balls to tackle drums. I will give it a shot. My girls car is a rav4 with four wheel disc brakes but the back brakes have a drum looking setup on the inside of the disc. In the end is it going to be the same process or is this different? Thanks in advance.
Fantastic work. Thanks for leaving in a lot of the second and third tries (with the spring application, for instance), it’s really helpful to see you trying with it a couple times. Seeing it not work perfectly the first time is VERY helpful!!
@S0v3r3ign69 Most parking brake cables are broken up into 3 parts, I’ve seen the tie everywhere the 3 meet freeze up in the past causing a symptom similar to what you describe, sometimes you have to drop the exhaust and a shield to find this tie, if it’s wedged free it up and readjust the cable accordingly.
@EricTheCarGuy yeah yeah…thank you mate, I did it but still doesn’t work as it was new. Is something ill-treat but I cannot figure what!
But thank you, fantastic tutorial and keep practicing with the vaseline
@S0v3r3ign69 Try out the rear brake shoe adjustment and make sure that is right before you chat the cable, the wheel should turn 1 1/2 to 2 turns when you spin it if it’s adjusted correctly. Once you have the brake adjustment right THEN chat the cable if it’s still not holding. As for your additional issues, see a psychiatrist.
i changed yesterday the brake pads, all seems ok but when i pull up the handbrake still the wheels are not freezing and i wonder why? i also set up the handbrake cable strenght but is not as it should. i own a mitsubishi colt 1.5di-d from 2006 what the hell may possibly be ill-treat? any ideeas guys? p.s.:I used also some vaseline on my cock.
@lungduck I plot on doing a video on dealing with those type of springs next time I get a brake job like this. Sorry you had such a hard time with it but thanks for the comment.
@lungduck Thanks for that comment, made my day.
@S0v3r3ign69 Years of practice.
you are quite skillful with the vaseline
hey eric thanks for these excellent vids. you seem like a trustworthy, honest, hardworking person. thanks again man.
jeez those last springs suck!! mine is a small more hard. i have one spring that fits on the bottom side…….harder than hell to place back on. LOL i see you are in sandals….i was wearing my flip flops in anticipation of i started needing better traction on my footing to get that damn last spring on. had to take a break……getting pissed:)
@nixymagoo First make sure you don’t have the adjustment too tight, the wheels should spin in this area 2 turns without resistance when you spin them. Some friction material does tend to smell when it breaks in so it may be normal but I would try out the adjustment to be sure.
Gday mate
Fantastic video very informative. i just done my back drum brakes and all went well
i have noticed though that they smell a small when iv been out driving . there is no smoke but they smell like they are burning .
any thoughts
cheers
Thanks Eric
Thanks Eric, don’t have the tools to do it my self but a fantastic resource.
@MrMO334 Comments like this make my day, thanks.
thank u saved me some cash!!!!!!!!!!
@carljarod If your trying to place the drum back on after installing new shoes make sure you backed the adjuster off all the way, if not the drum will have a hard time going back on. Also if you are reusing the ancient drums and didn’t have them machined then it’s possible that a “rust ridge” on the inside of the drum along the outer rim is making it hard for you to place them back on. I sometimes have to sand this off to get the drum back on.
